Storing Chillies

So you have grown your crop of chilli, but how do you store them ?

There are several ways to store the chillies that you have grown, so that you can enjoy them all year round.

Drying

To dry chillies you should select fruit that has already turned red.

String them together by tying the stalks of 3 to 4 chillies together and then threading the bunches on to another string.

Hang them in a well aired place in full sun.

Pickling

Start with 1 pound of chillies (habaneros and jalapenos are great to pickle) and 1 quart of white vinegar in a saucepan. Bring them to boil and then let cool.

Store the pickled chillies in sterilized jars in a cool place.

Storing

Fresh chillies can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. It is best to keep them in a brown paper bag rather than a plastic container.

Dried chillies will keep just about forever if locked in an air tight container and stored in a cool dark place.
